Welcome to our website. We're Steve & Debbie Turner

global resorts network

We're so glad you stopped by to see what we are all about and what we're up to. We hope you'll spend some time here on our website, get to know us better and heck, drop us an email and let us know a little bit about yourself!

We live in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, about 5 minutes from the ocean so it’s great being able to put our toes in the water just about any time. If you've never been to Charleston, there's so much history and beauty, we invite you to come see our City. Kilwin’s Ice Cream at “the Market” is a “must have” by the way. Here are some pictures that Debbie took of our town.

We married in June of 1980 and have 3 wonderful children. Andrew and Scott are in their twenties, single and are entrepreneurs and Ashley is in high school where she's studying zoology and psychology. She wants to be a dolphin trainer. She's very focused and is actively pursuing her own business to pay her way through college. You can see pictures of her training for day on our website under Dolphin Training.

During a span of 15 years, we served as foster parents and look back often on the joys and blessing that each child brought into our lives. The kids thought they were lucky . . but really . . . we were the lucky ones to be the recipient of those hugs. Our own children were terrific foster siblings to the kids which made it even sweeter. It was a family affair!

Our faith in Jesus Christ has sustained our marriage and raising kids over the years. We’ve had our rocky spells, but we survived. We attend Seacoast Church here in Mount Pleasant and feel that God has lead us to our Global Resorts home business to help others not only enjoy travel for a great price, but, to help them develop their own successful business and be a blessing to them. We have been on mission trips to Mexico and our son has been to Africa and Costa Rica. We have a heart for missions, feeding the starving and its our dream to be able to donate in such a way that thousands of children are feed and housed and clothed. We want to donate in a way that we can have people to hug these children, wash their faces and little hands and look them square in the eyes and tell them how much they are loved and how special they are.

Our Kids are our life. What a blessing so have such awesome kids who are best friends.

Our favorite place to go is the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (below right) and Zion National Park, a few hours away from there. Gosh, we’ve been there so many times, and every time we go it’s new and fresh all over again. It's full of beauty and wonder and it just calls us to hike the canyons, peak over ridges, and explore. We love roasting marshmallows, getting dirty, making trail mix, tubing down rivers, chili over a fire and sleeping in tents.

As a family, we love to camp and hike. The picture above is a walk deep through the forest, Ashley and Steve leading the way, and below is our typical set up for Pisquah National Forest because it rains without warning.

For every day kind of fun, we love to walk downtown Charleston with double scoops of Pralines and Cream ice cream from Kulwin's on Historic Market Street, seeing people have fun on vacation (we live in a vacation destination and cruise ships are often in the harbor), watching ships go by in the harbor and smelling the sea and delicious smells of all the restaurants.

We love piling pillows on the bed and watching a good movie. Debbie and Ashley love to watch I Love Lucy” re-runs until they crack up!

We love playing Cashflow 101 and always speculate who will get stuck with the boat! It’s total drama when the card is chosen, very funny! Most importantly, is just being together as a family.

Other leisures we enjoy, and are looking forward to doing more of, is scuba diving, snorkeling, deep sea fishing and travel. It doesn't’t matter where we go, we just love having something on the calendar to look forward to. We love getting away.

Steve is a BIG Nebraska Cornhusker fan! He grew up in Omaha and the first words he learned was “Go Big Red!”. When football season is in, it’s amazing how he can rearrange his calendar to get the games in. It's like magic!

Husker Fan and Family Ping Pong Champ

Debbie is a big scrapbooking fan. Her passion is preserving family memories in archival albums but she’s also a published scrapbook designer for various manufacturers. She’s often invited to conventions, stores and retreats to teach classes. Debbie always made sure that each foster child coming through her home had their own book about them. After seeing what an impact these books made in the lives of her foster children, she began advocating for them to each have one. Debbie authored a book and hands-on training called “Loving Through Lifebooks” for foster parents and social workers on how to make scrapbooks for children in care. On a side note here: Debbie's Mom owns a scrapbook store in KY that's absolutely fantastic. If you scrapbook, stop by the site and check it out. It's called Scrapbook Village.

This is a sample of a scrapbook layout. It features Debbie's Daughter Ashley and Debbie's sister, Regina playing in the rain on a summer day. This is a layout that's in Ashley's personal book but was designed and used as a sample of what you can do with these Marcella papers and featured on the packaging for Target Stores.

This is what a scrapbook page may look like in one of our family albums documenting our travel. Here we are at the Biltmore Estate in NC. I've made a pocket for the brochure, a book and our tickets are attached. This was a trip that Steve, Ashley and Myself took.

Debbie Explains her Hobby and Passion

Debbie Co-Hosting a TV Show in her Hobby Industry

With Ashley still at home and in high school, we all love that we can be there for her and her activities. She danced for 3 years with the Charleston Ballet Theater while at the same time began karate lessons. She was very good at both and at some point, she had to make a decision which to pursue. After taking a summer and thinking about it before classes began again, she decided on karate. She still misses dance to this day, but she has a passion for karate and loves to compete.

Here's Ashley in the dressing room of the theater after The Nutcracker where she danced as a "Magnolia". Other years she was jester, lead jester, and a soldier. Middle picture is Ashley a bit older following a karate tournament in Myrtle Beach and the the last picture is her oldest brother Andrew, who is always joking around with the. All our kids are best friends and it's wonderful!

Ashley's commitment to her sport could teach adults something
about commitment to business.

When the boys were growing up, we had so much fun participating in their interests. They played Little League for years and Steve was the coach for one or the other of their teams. When Scott made the All-Stars, Steve coached the All-Star team. They also played soccer for a few years.

Cub Scouts was also big in the happenings of our life back then. Debbie was Den Mother for years and one of the Pack Leaders. Steve and the boys would spend hours perfecting their cars for the Pine Wood Derby and doing other project. Debbie also a Girl Scout leader for Ashley's troop when she was in Scouts.

Where did the time go? How we miss those days!

On a side note:

Steve is very outgoing, loves to talk, makes friends with everyone he passes, laughs about anything and everything, and is always in a good mood. He’s a morning person all the way. He likes to BBQ, read books, enjoys a good cup of Starbucks coffee and when he's bored, heads to Barnes and Noble.

Debbie likes making new friends however, she not the social butterfly that Steve is. She enjoys being behind the scenes helping, she's more reserved and quiet. She doesn’t think most of the things Steve laughs at is funny at all, but that's okay, she's used to it. And, she MUST have a cup of hot tea, preferably English Breakfast, first thing in the morning. She’s a night owl all the way. Debbie loves to bake and is voted the family's best apple pie maker. She enjoys photography, reading and watching the food network especially Paula Dean and Rachel Ray.

Here's a couple pics from our vacation to St. Paul, MN October 2007

Today, Debbie focuses on their Global Resorts Network business. Steve is the Managing Partner in Coastal Wealth Management, a financial firm in Charleston. He also has a unique one-of-a-kind college planning practice. Debbie has more time now to scrapbook and travel to Kentucky to “play” with her Mom and family there.

We are not a "flashy" family with material "toys" and "stuff". The things that matter most to us and bring us the greatest joy is being able to spend time as a family, camping and hiking, traveling and giving in such a way that it makes a life and death difference to people in the world. We believe in the principals taught in "The Millionaire Next Door". We love our jeans, shorts, t-shirts and sandals, our paid for mini-van and Toyota Camry, and knowing that our financial needs are taken care of for life. To us, freedom is knowing that we can help our parents and family in years to come and we can work if and when we want. That's financial freedom to us. That makes for a good night's sleep.

Through the success of our Global Resorts Network business, we look forward to being able to provide housing, food, farming, and water to poverished areas of the world. Having fostered children under the best of circumstances, we can’t imagine what it’s like to not only not have parents, but to not have basic needs in life met, such as food, water, shelter, clothes and hugs. We look forward to the day we can stroke a check and plant a field, build a barn, build some homes, build a well, etc.

Steve's Shares His Background: I grew up in Omaha, Nebraska. I was the third born son of 4. My youngest brother passed away just recently. My childhood summers were spent with my Mom, brothers and friends on the lake, on the Platt River or at my Dad's house in Minnesota. I was a pretty good athlete and well liked in school. My personal life was about partying, drinking and goofing around. My winters were spent playing cards, the game of choice was pinochle. What else can you do in the winter in Omaha?

My family is big on Nebraska football, so naturally "Go Big Red" was very much a part of my life. Although I've been disappointed lately in their performance, I'll always be a faithful Nebraska fan.

I had several step fathers growing up so I never bonded to a real Dad. In my early years my oldest brother Chuck was very close to me, almost like a dad, until he went away to Vietnam. I am very proud of his service to his country. My Mom was gone a lot working as a waitress, many times working two jobs to support me and my two brothers. I grew up pretty much taking care of myself. At the age of 16 I lived alone while finishing high school. I worked my way through high school and was pretty much left alone with my brothers. I was the class clown. I did not take my classes seriously and barely graduated. College was never talked about as I grew up and it never crossed my mind as a possibility. I grew up with the mentality that you just . . . well . . . grow up. . . and try to find work.

Out of high school I worked odd jobs here and there. I landed a job at an appliance store delivering appliances in Palmdale, CA. That's where I met Debbie. The guy I delivered appliances with shared the message of salvation with me and I gave my life to Christ during that time.

After Debbie and I got married, I began work in the restaurant supply and design field. I found that I really liked it and sank my teeth in it. After a couple of years we moved to Las Vegas, NV where my family had relocated. I was hired by a company doing design, sales and installations of restaurants, convenient stores, etc. I decided however, that for me to achieve all that I wanted, I needed to own my own business. So I ventured out and did just that. I was very successful and that aspect felt good but the hours and problem solving and running from this job site to the other was a constant in my life.

To make a long story short, over the course of 5 years, we ended up moving to KY and then to Mt. Pleasant, SC where we live now. During those years I began a practice in the financial and college planning field. I've gone on to be an author and speaker on the subject of college planning. I am a founding member and area director of a non-profit college planning foundation, the American College Planning Foundation Center. I'm also a Registered Investment Advisor and Managing Partner of Coastal Wealth Management here in Mt. Pleasant. Helping families and high school students in this arena is very rewarding. I especially enjoy helping high school kids discover their strengths, their passions and talents. Helping families figure out how to pay for college and helping students get into the best colleges where they can excel is very fulfilling.

Debbie & Troy. Troy is Debbie's younger brother. He's a diabetic and went blind a year ago. Here he has just recovered from a stroke he had 2 months earlier. Every moment is precious. Debbie and Steve are passionate about helping Troy with anything he needs. Just another darn good reason to celebrate our business with Global Resorts Network!

Debbie Shares Her Background: I grew up in Palmdale, CA. I have an older brother, a younger brother and 2 sisters. As a little girl, I rode my bike until dark, played hide and seek for hours, played jacks, jump rope, tetherball and hoola hoop. I enjoyed dressing up, lemonade stands and being in Girl Scouts.

In Junior High School I ran track and did very well. In high school I was in all the choir classes and made state. I wasn't allowed to really participate in extracurricular activities that required transportation so I pretty much had my fun in choir. I was very active in my church youth group. I also was in Job's Daughters, bethel #258, Palmdale, CA and was the Honored Queen in 1976-77. I ran for Miss Littlerock in 1977 and was first runner up. Oh well, such is life for a young girl.

I only remember going out to dinner a couple of times during my childhood. Once we flew to Michigan to see my Dad's side of the family over Christmas. Dad didn't like traveling and going places so . . . we didn't. We did however, go camping which is where I get my love for it today. Camping back then meant tossing a sleeping bag on the ground and that's it. Dad would always make what we still today as a tradition called, "Daddy Eggs". That's scrambled eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and onions all mixed together.

My Mom was always very present in my life. Going back to my earliest years, I remember her being home. Dinner was on the table every night, the home was kept clean, she participated in all my school activities as the Room Mother (remember those?) She was the Scout Leader, Job's Daughter leader, and volunteered for anything involving my activities. I remember loving that.

Growing up, there was never a conversation about me going to college or having a career. I was brought up in old school thinking where I was going to grow up to be a homemaker. Mom taught me to cook, keep house, sew, and take care of children. It's actually a wonderful privilege for Moms to be able to do that, but I was not prepared for "real life" of being able to earn a living should I need to. Then, . . . I graduated from high school. My folks up and moved across the United States, I had no husband in the wings, and Boy Oh Boy . . . did I need a job!

I worked as a secretary at the business my Dad had owned until I met Steve, we got married and then I thought, "AH-HAH! Now I can be a homemaker!

I started a home daycare business. Being around babies all day, I was loosing myself and my identity. I needed to have adult conversations! I went to school and became a legal secretary.

I loved my career in the legal field. I was very good at it and I did that for several years in Las Vegas, NV. It was during this time however, being around the more affluent, I learned that people took vacations (that wasn't something I grew up with - we went camping). I discovered that people went out to eat and did the whole fine dining thing. I learned that there was a world out there of places to go and things to do. BOY DID I EVER LEAD A SHELTERED LIFE! I wanted to do what these people were doing and enjoy life like they were!

I began to realize that I was doing so much of the work and the attorneys got all the money and glory. I became resentful of that. I was at the top of my pay scale at the time so I knew that this would be a dead end if I wanted more income. I gave long thought to what I could do to earn 6-figures + per year without going to college. I chose real estate.

I began my real estate career in 1994 and earned that 6-figure income within the first year. Over the years, I got "comfortable and secure" in what I did. My real estate practice had been good UNTIL the end of 2005, the market drastically turned. I went from properties selling in hours to sitting for months, some are still sitting, and it's 2007!

2006: Debbie says, “The real estate market turned sour the fall of 2005. I found myself basically out of work, yet all the marketing I put in place for the year still had to be paid. So bills were coming in without the 6-figure income I was accustomed to. I knew I had to change my career direction. I turned to the internet to search for home based businesses. What I was looking for, I really didn’t think existed because I had “tried” home business before and failed because of lack of knowledge on really how to develop one.”

“Well, after searching all summer, I came across a business called Coastal Vacations. It was everything I had hoped for, so I thought. "As time passed however, and I began to try and use my own package, I saw many flaws. I was really disappointed. And there was no customer service to call for help. I found myself banging my head against the wall to use my $11,000 package. Ouch!

I then came across a very user friendly site in the travel industry with Global Resorts Network. I was floored about the customer service, the product, the ease of booking vacation online or with a travel agent, and the wholesale prices for Members. For example, 7 night stay in a luxury resort for $298! Good grief! I also discovered that the play plan was perpetual leverage. Watch the video on how this works from our website. For us, this was an "out of the park" home run. We joined and have been very happy and excited our decision. This is a no-brainer.

“It was also a product that I could be passionate about, travel. I learned that travel is the number 1 industry in the world, with $7 trillion a year being spent and growing at a rate of 23% per year! So, the demand for product was there. The commissions were there. The rest was a business decision. Here’s how I evaluated it:

1. Regardless of the product or service I choose, I still needed a website and the cost of that;
2. I still needed to advertise to let people know I was in business.
3. I still had to have a budget for advertising
4. I still had to devote x amount of hours per week into my business

So, if all this is equal . . . it’s all the same, regardless of the business I choose, then what was the x factor for me?

“Well, I decided that if I was going to have to put in the time, money and effort in no matter what business I choose, then boy I better be paid nicely for it and people better want what I have to offer! Well, that’s my B-I-N-G-O! Travel and high commissions earning $1,000 on unlimited depths for a lifetime! "
